Federal Government Takes Drastic Action
BREAKING STRIKES BACK United Press Association —By ElootrU Telegraph—Cop;rright. Received Sunday, 11 p.m. SYDNEY, June 10. Masters and engineers reduced to idleness by the cooks’ strike have decided they will sail with free labour as they resent the cooks’ action in holding up the whole of the Commonwealth services. The owners will call to-morrow morning for free cooks for the Mildura in Sydney and the Loongana in Melbourne. The Federal Government proclamation under the Crimes Act has been signed and ready for issuance If necessary. The proclamation empowers the authorities to take action against any attempt to prevent the carrying on of essential services. Mr Bird, secretary of the Australian Labour Party, says the enforcement of these conditions under threat of armed force will never assist in securing industrial peace.
