DAYLIGHT SAVING

SPEAKERS POR, VOTES AGAINST Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The principle of daylight saving had staunch defenders at a conference of tho North Canterbury Farmers’ Union to-day, but when the question went to a division, the voting was fourteen to five against the Summer Time Act, Most’ of the talking was by supporters of the scheme. A typical advocate was Mr E. A / Foster (Omihi) who said his branch was against it, but he was for it. “All this opposition is child’s talk,’’ he said, “I have four young children and live five miles from a school, and 1 employ two teamsters and a maid. It is an unqualified success. I’d like to know where this is against farmers’ interests. If farmers can put in another hour’s work, it is going to be a great boon to the country. It would surprise people to seo how few chimneys are smoking at six o’clock in tho morning in the country. Not one farmer is killing himself with overwork for all the talk. The farmers need not put in an extra hour if they don’t want to. The argument against it is absolute prejudice.”
