The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, is still indisposed owing to a cold and the departure of their Excellencies from Auckland for Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, Palmerston North and Wellington, has been postponed until Sunday evoking. Their Excellencies will travel to New Plymouth by train. Although the time at their disposal for the tour has been considerably shortened they will carry out the programme arranged and will bo at Palmerston North on June 21 for the opening of tho Manawatu Winter Show. A telegram from Auckland announces the death at the age of 72 years o£ Eev. William Beatty, who was for 28 years vicar of St. Mark’s Church, Bemuera. Tho death is announced from Sydney of Mr. B. Lanceley, director and founder of the North Sydney Brick and Tile Company, The late Mr. Lanceley, who was a former New Zealander, was aged SO years. The death occurred at Lawrence yesterday of John Edid, ex-member for Clutha. He had been ailing for tho last six months and had been confined to his bed for tho last six weeks suffering from heart weakness. Ho was in his seventy-third year.—(P.A.) A Vancouver cable states that Sir Benjamin Howell, chairman of the British Empire Producers' Board Organisation, the British Empire Sugar Federation, and the British Empire Tobacco Federation, will sail on Tuesday next to review trade conditions in Australia and New Zealand. Notice in last night’s Gazette states that Colonel S. S. Allen, Hauriki Eegiment, relinquishes the appointment of honorary aide de camp to the GovernorGeneral. Colonel A. B. Charters, Commander First New Zealand Infantry Brigade, is appointed honorary aide .de camp to tho Governor-General. The period of command of Lieut.-Colonel L. C. Chaytor, Nelson-Marlborough Mounted Bifies, is extended to May 31, 1929, The period of command of Lieut.Colonel H. E. Barrowclough, Otago Begiment, is extended to May 31, 1929. Colonel S. S. Allen, Hauraki Eegiment, relinquishes command of the regiment, and is transferred to reserve. Major P. Prideaux, Hauraki Eegiment, is appointed to command the regiment.—P.A.
