KILLJOY JIX
HOME SECRETARY'S NEW NICKNAME. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, May 17.
Sir Joynsou-Hicks, Home Secretary, questioned in the Commons in reference to the recent decision wherein a whist drive with money prizes in the interests of charity was held to be illegal, pointed out that whist drives for money prizes were held to be illegal away back in 1912.
Mr. Maxton (Labour): Arc you aware that owing to its restrictions on re creation the Government is known as the "Killjoy” Government, and you as "Killjoy Jix”? Sir Joynson Hicks (who is popularity known as "Jix”): I cannot over-ride the decision of the Court though I do not object to whist drives. Ho said he could not at present promise legislation on the subject.
