CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night.

A liberal reduction in the price of petrol has been secured for the financial members of the Canterbury Automobile Association. Within the next week full information will bo published regarding the scheme which is for a term extending till 1932.

First class petrol will be available from bowsers.

It is understood that the arrangement has been made independently of the companies which supply the bulk of the petrol at present. D.P.U. DEMANDS REDUCTION IN PRICE. The Dairy Farmers' Union, which met. in Palmerston North yesterday, devoted a portion of its time to discussing the price of petrol. The subject was introduced by Mr. W. H. Gimblott, who considered th« charge to the small user too high. He suggested that a protest should be sent to the oil companies’ agents in New Zealand.

One member said he had it on good authority that one New Zealand company last year netted a profit of ll'd per gallon on benzine and their turnover had been 9,000,000 gallons.

The secretary (Mr O. D. Fraser) reminded the mcctiijg that this matter had been raised in the House each session but no progress was made in the way of securing reduced prices. Mr. Gimblett urged that representations bo made to local M.’s P. on the subject.

The chairman advocated that the first step should be to get facts and ■figures to place before Parliament, which would show the profits the companies were making.

Mi - . P. J. Small thought the meeting was up against a big problem. A member (to Mr. Small): What wili you do when you got into Parliament? Mr. Small: Stop the importation of cars for 10 years and New Zealand will be made.

The speaker proposed co-oporating with the automobile association and his suggestion was adopted. The automobile association is to be assured of the whole-hearted support of the union in any endeavour made to get benzine prices reduced.
