The name of Mr. J. Galloway, of Palmerston North, was omitted from the list of B.A. passes in economics. The well known 0.T., Mr. A. V. Pizzcy speaks at the Citizens’ Lunch Club to-day. His isubject is appropriately “On the Road.” Mr. Arthur Hopwood is chairman. Mrs. D. Christie and her daughter Mrs. W. Trueman of Poston left on Friday last for a six weeks holiday in Dunedin and the South. Mr. D. Niven, of the Palmerston Borough electrical staff, has been appointed engineering while Mr. F. Cantlon has been promoted to assistant Inspector. The Minister, of Health, Honorable J. A. Young, will be present at the Rotary Conference in Palmerston North on February 29th, and will perform the opening ceremony. Mr. James Christie of the Foxton Harbour Board Office staff has resigned to take up the position of secretary to Mr. H. Osborne who has recently purchased the auxiliary scow “Portland.” A London cable message reports that Sir Trarvers Humphreys has been appointed a Judge of the King’s Bench; Sir Travers Humphreys has been briefed in connection with many celebrated cases. Mr. Edward Barry, who will be taking up his duties as headmaster of tin Central School in March, will be replaced in the Eltham school by Mr. A. E. Thomas who is at present headmaster of the Wuitara school. Sir George Fuller was entertained at a farewell banquet prior to his departure from Sydney to London to assume the Agent-Generalship of New South Wales, states a Sydney message, Mr. Bavin and others eulogised his long political services 1 6 the State. Trinity College of Music, London, has appointed the following examiners to visit Australia and New Zealand:— Mr. Adolph Mann, who is due at Perth on April 3; Mr. Albert Mallinson and Dr. Vaughan, both due at Perth on August 14; Mr. Egerton Lowe, due at Auckland on June 18; Dr. Borland, due at Christchurch early in July, says an Australian Press Association and Sun message. The death occurred suddenly at Dunedin on Sunday night of Mr. Chas. Speight, manager of the Dunedin branch of New Zealand Breweries, Ltd. and a director of that company. Born in Dunedin in 1865, the late Mr. Speight was one of the southern city’s best known citizens, having spent the whole of his life there. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Speight ,arrived in Dunedin in 1861, the father founding in 1876 the brewery business with which the name of Speight has for so many years been connected. For some years the late Mr Speight was manager of Messrs. Speight and Co. Ltd. Ha was one of the directors of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, held in Dunedin recently, and in recognition of the high quality of his work he was honored with the decoration of 0.8. E.
