SERIOUS SHORTAGE OF WATER IN NORTH IF DROUGHT LASTS
AUCKLAND 0. COUNCIL DISCUSSES SITUATION NO BAIN SINCE OCTOBER ("Times” Special.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. If present economies are continued Auckland has sufficient water in store to last until the end of March. Discussing the position this morning the chairman of the Water Committee of the Auckland City Council said that the reservoirs at the Waitakere were steadily being drained, and a continuation of the drought may necessitate th« imposition of further restrictions. No appreciable fall of rain has beei experienced in tho Waitakares sinot early in October, over four months ag« and tho position is causing some concern. The water in tho upper Nihotpu dam, which lately was full and contained 70,000,000 gallons, has been emptied into tho main dam. The reason foi this was that the continuance of dry weather made it likely that the ausil liary supply would have to be drawn on.
