ANGLICAN COMBINED SUNDAY SCHOOLS’ PICNIC

ENJOYABLE DAY , AT ASHHURST DOMAIN. ; Although the drought may give cause for some uneasiness, tjiero is no doubt that the present is the* ideal time for that most pleasant of outings; the picnic, ■ Olio of the most enjoyable outings of this nature which has taken place this , year, was the annual combined picnic, of the Anglican Sunday schools of Palmerston North and district, which took place on Saturday. The Ashhurst Domain was the venue and, as usual, proved an ideal picnic resort. Six hundred and fifty passengers approximately travelled to Ashhurst by 1 the special train, while over 200 more made the journey by road. Children from St. Peter's, All Saint’s, ■ Kairanga, Longburn, and Newbury Sunday schools formed a big contingent while numbers of parents and friends of the children also attended. ; 1 1 A lengthy sports programme was carried out and a number of novelty events proved an attraction for the older folks. The organisation of such a large outing necessarily entails a great deal of work and worry but the results wore such as to reflect the greatest credit upon those in charge. Rev. H. S. Kenney acted as organiser in chief, while Revs. Wiltshire and Neild were in charge of the senior sports events. A tactful- and energetic committee consisting of Misses Harwood. Carroll, Outram, and Purser, was in charge of tho girls’ sports events. Probably the largest item of a picnic is the catering but, in this case, an energetic ladles’ committee headed by Mrs. Metcalfe and Miss Newman, took all arrangements in this connection out of the busy hands of the organiser. A splendid day was spent in perfect weather amid the natural attractions of the Domain, and it was a happy freight that the "special” carried when it pulled out from the Ashhurst railway Station.
