FEILDING A. AND P. ASSOCIATION MEETS

JUDGE’S DECISION CRITICISED. The committee of the Fcilding A. and P. Association met on Friday evening, Mr. J. Gordon Eliott, M.P., presiding. It was resolved to send letters of svmpathy to tho relatives of tho late Mr. Trevor Shannon, and to Mr. Edmund Goodbehere in connection with their recent bereavements. On the motion of the president, it was resolved to send a letter of appreciation to tho Meat Control Board for the attention given to the show carcases exported homo. No action was taken with reference to a letter from the S.P.C.A. calling attention to freak animal exhibits at side shows connected with A. and P. Shows.

11l connection with, the medal donated by the Southdown Sheep Society for the best two tooth Southdown ram exhibited at the show, it was resolved to request the society, when allocating the medals next year to make it clear whether- the trophy is for a specified class or for open competition. The secretary reported that the profit on the recent ram fair amounted to £BO which was about the same as that for last year’s fair. Cups Won Outright, The following cups were won outright at the recent show: Fetiding Farmers’ Freezing Coy. Cup for pigs: J. Shortall. McElroy Cup for open pony jump: H. M. Blunden. Dernier Cup for most points in Jerseys: B. L. Horn. Jersey Breeders’ Cup for Championship cow: W. T. Williams. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association requesting them to donate a cup for this competition and to make efforts to replace the three trophies won outright. Mr. Eliott Not Seeking Be-election. In thanking the committee, for their loyal support, the president Mr. J. Gordon Eliott, M.P., intimated that he would, not bo able to offer himself for re-election for a further term. He thought that he had not given the committee all the time and attention the office called for, and, while ho had still some months to go, he took the opportunity of letting them know that he would bo unable to carry on. Mr. 0. M'Elroy eulogized the president’s work and trusted that ho would, reconsider bis decision but-Mr. Eliott regretted that he could .not do so. Judge’s Decision Criticised. Mr, E. Burrell brought up a question as to a judge over-looking an obviously bettor show ewe which, on his opinion had not roared a lamb and considered that some provision should be muade to obviate such)action when the owner is prepared to sign' an affidavit that the ewe had reared a lamb, c The meeting inclined to the opinion that the question was for the Sheep Schedule Committee to deal with. Mr. E. E. Short claimed that the judge’s decision must be accepted and a judge was right in excluding any show ewe over a certain age which had in his opinion, not reared a lamb. It would-be very unfair for breeders to show sheep which had not reared lambs against those that had. ■ The question will bo dealt with by the Sheep Schedule Committee.
