Sir John Vicars has accepted the scat on the board of the Australian Gas Light Company rendered vacant by the death of Mr. A. G. Milson. Elder, Smith and Co. Ltd. has declared a dividend at the rate of 10 per cent per annum for tho six months ended December 31, payable on March Ist. Calls and loan instalments falling duo in London in January, 1928, amounted to £28,587,264, as compared with £21,029,413 in the corresponding month of 1927. The liquidators of the Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company, Ltd., (in liquidation) advise that no replies were received to the advertisement calling for tenders for the purchase of the company’s mine, plant, equipment, freehold land, leases and other assets in Queensland. , The loans raised by British municipalities last year were not so heavy as for the previous year, the total actually received being £27,100,000, against £41,800,000 for 1926. Tho Department of Mines estimates that the total value of New South Wales mineral production for the year ended December 31. was between ’.19,000,000 and £19,500,00. The previous year’s output from mines and quarries exceeded £20,000,000 in aggregate value.
