GENERAL NEWS

The Sanson-Bulls highway which has been closed to traffic owing to tar-seal-ing operations, will be opened again to-day. Dear elderly Palmerston North' lady (on phone.: “6532? But I asked for G 531. Never mind, it’s only next door. Would you mind running in and telling them I shall be round to-night?” . Over seven hundredweight of schnapper were landed by one fishing firm at the Manawatu Bar yesterday morning. The fish are usually plentiful at this month of the year. The Hon. Mr. Justice Ostler delivered judgment in the Supreme Court in Palmerston North yesterday in the action brought by Michael and Catherine O’Sullivan, proprietors of the Kosy Lounge, Palmerston North (Mr. Ongley) against Samuel IC Murray, of Palmerston North (Mr Innes) in which the plaintiffs asked for an injunction and £2OO damages, alleging that defendant had broken a contract not to start in the same line of business within 10 miles of Palmerston North until 3 years had elapsed from the time of the sale of the Kosy Lounge to plaintiffs. His Honour considered that plaintiff had failed to prove his allegations although on the surface the actions of defendant seemed suspicious. Defendant, no doubt, had been frequently on the premises of the Boyal Dutch, the lease of which had been taken by defendant’s brothers, Fred, and Jack Murray. Ho had taken a very friendly interest in his brothers’ business but the evidence feU short of proving him a partner. Plaintiff would be non-suited. His Honour again commented upon the action of defendant in trying to interfere with a witness of the other side and to mark the displeasure of the Court, would deprive him of his costs, Special Harvest Thanksgiving Services are to be held in connection with the Presbyterian Church at Eongotea to-morrow. The morning service will be in the Anglican Church, when Eev. G. T, Brown, M.A., will be the preacher, and the evening service will be conducted by Mr. J. H. Wilson in the Masonic Hall.
