WELLINGTON RACING CLUB HAS GOOD YEAR
BLOODSTOCK. SALE WAS PARTICULARLY SUCCESSFUL, (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON. Last Night. The annual meeting of the Wellington Racing Club was held to-day, President J. B. Harcourt presiding. He expressed- satisfaction at the successful year. Thc nett, profit had been £6435 12s Sd for five meetings, an extra meeting having been granted for the American Fleet’s visit. The balance tire previous year was £9551 18s Id but a falling off in returns for last year was not unexpected, said Mr. Harcourt. Thc stakes paid amounted to £38,610 compared with £43,900 tho previous year. Taxes paid to the Government amounted to £41,583 5s )ld. Totalisator receipts were £51,893 18s 7d compared with £61,197 19s 7d for 1927. Tho gate and railway receipts were £15,800 5s 6d, a decrease of £2679 10s Id, and privileges £5300 Ss Sd, an increase of £2792 7s 7d. The attendance of the public was exceptional. The autumn meeting showed an increase and support from owners and trainers also increased. The sale of bloodstock at the January meeting was a great success and Trentham would becom G thc sale centre in New Zealand for this class of stock. Tlie stewards were highly enthusiastic with the work of Secretary Griffiths. The report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. The election of officers resulted: — President: Mr. J. B. Harcourt; vicepresident: Mr. O. g. Watkins; stewards; Dr. Gilmour, Lieut.-Colonel H. J. McLean. Messrs. K. D. Duncan, M. McLean and E. L. Riddiford.
