HAMMOND LOSES RECORD THROUGH RAIN

The match between The Rest and Lancashire was abandoned owing to tho rain. The game was drawn, Tho abandonment after lunch at the Oval of the final match of tho season robbed the cx-icket wox-ld at the last moment of a chance of a new record. At, lunch time Hammond of The Rest, was 53 not out, bringing his season’s total to 2969. He only wanted 39 to become the youngest ■ever to score 3000 in a season and so join tho select band of the three thoueanders, of whom Ranjitsinbji achieved the distinction at the youngest age—26. Hammond, however easily gained the distinction, seeming the highest aggregate for 1927. AUSTRALIAN TEAM TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND. (Received Friday, 1.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept, 15. The board of cricket control has decided to send an Australian team to tour New Zealand in February next, the tour to occupy two months.
