FASHIONS IN THE NURSERY

The mothers of small children are already turning their thoughts to new woollies for the little ones. Of quite new design is a practical' bodice intended for infants. It wraps around the little wearer, the wrap-over part being brought through a slot and tied in the front in the same manner as a barracoat. It keeps the, wearer cosy while allowing perfect freedom ol movement. Also for the tiny baby is a new shaded woollen pilch. It is of neat design and, being laced edged, when fixed has the appearance of little knickers and is both protective and convenient for the baby in arms. i Then there is a new shape in gym. knickers which should interest the mothers of growing girls who get through those articles so quickly. They are cut on lines which allow the fullest freedom and therefore should last longer than the’ old shape. In dresses, coats and suits there is a bewildering array of new fashions, Brushed wool. .on account of its fluffy daintiness, is still in first favourite. A practical little coat in this material is made in true cardigan shape, complete with roll collar and pockets, and would bo charming in wear abovo a little kilt. Fair Isle designs, combining bright colours upon white backgrounds, evidently are going to be very much worn in the world of nursery fashions, and really inanage to convey the idea of miniature winter sports suits. In most cases the caps accompanying these suits are of the old-fashioned “Brewer” type,’ with long tassels of the multi-coloured wools. Woollen shortening frocks with pilch-shape knickers are made in special babyish designs, and are much more suitable than the ordinary woolly, which often is too grown-up looking for the baby of a few months. For school children and those of the playing ago thorp arc many charming designs carried out in woven fabric, which is, perhaps, more serviceable,. a s it catches the dirt less than the fluffy knitted garment
