PACIFIC CABLE BILL DISCUSSED
EXPENDITURE REQUIRES DOMINIONS’ SANCTION. [By Electric Caoie-Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Wednesday, 9 p.m.) LONDON, April 5. The House of CommoiV is discussing the Pacific Cable Bill in committee. Mr. Hentshorn (Labour) approved of its Socialistic principles. Mr. Wheatley (Labour) asked if the Board’s capital expenditure was in any way limited. Lt. Col. the Rt. Hon. L. C. Amery, Secretary for the Dominions, pointed out that unusual expenditure required tho sanction of the Dominions’ Governments who did not encourage extravagance. . Mr. Kirkwood moved to reduce the chairman’s salary from £IOOO to £SOO. Ho argued the Board only met ten times yearly for about an hour. The debate was adjourned.
