Miss Naomi Whallcy, the wellknown Palmerston North soprano, has been engaged by th 6 Auckland Choral Society as soprano soloist for its forth-coming-production' of ‘‘The Creation.” The death is announced by a Press Association message of Mr. William Arnott, aged 98, Greymouth’s oldest citizen. Mr. Arnott, who was a retired builder, and a Crimean War veteran, arrived on the Coast in 1865.

Mr. J. A. Bond, a well-known Auckland artist. Is visiting Palmerston North. Mr. Bond has travelled extensively in Australia and the South Sea Islands and has painted a wide variety of subjects. Of special interest are his coloured of native birds and Maori chiefs, while he has a special talent for painting on velvet and in pastel.

The chairman of the Hospital Board (Sir J. G. Witson) madd mention at yesterday’s meeting of the valuable services rendered the Institution by Dr. G. A. Forrest, during the difficult time when the Hospital was without a Medical Superintendent. “The Board owes Dr. Forrest a debit of gratitude,” added the chairman who also explained that Dr. Noel Fulton (Dunedin) was now acting as Superintendent pending tho appointment of a permanent head.
