FAILED TO NOTIFY ACCIDENT

OFFENCE AGAINST MOTORS ACT. Motorists' who are not acquainted with the Motor Vehicles Act should take warning from an action heard in ,the Magistrate a Court yesterday. Robert Gardene r pleaded guilty to s. charge Of failing to report a motor accident which happened on Juno 6 at the corner of Grey and Princess streets, when a cyclist was knocked over by the car and slightly hurt. Mr. McGregor counsel for defendant, pleaded that Gardener was unaware that he had to report the accident. The Magistrate: A motorist has to report if there is any injury to a person. There might be a serious smash and no injury to person, in which case there would be no need to report the occurrence. Mr. McGregor: The section of the Act is not generally known. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady: The section is well known. The Police continually have accidents reported whether people are injured or not. A fine of 40/- and costs was Imposed.
