COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL. On Thursday evening lasi, Hiss R. Barber, who is shortly to be married, was entertained by the Poxton Ladies’ Hockey Club, of which she was last season’s captain, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Barron. In the absence of the Club’s patron, Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., who sent best wishes to the guest. Mr. Barron (president) presented the guest of the evening with an oak dinner wagon, suitably inscribed. On behalf of tlie Club, Mr. Barron wished Miss Barber health and happiness in her married life. He referred to Miss Barber’s good qualities both socially and in the realm of sport. Mr. D. Christie, vice-president, endorsed the president’s complimentary remarks. The health of the guest was drunk with musical items. Mr. H. Hornblow, on behalf of Miss Barber, acknowledged the good wishes and thanked the. Club for the token of esteem which would remind the recipient of the happy associations with her club members and of many hard-fought games on the field. Dancing on the lawn, musical items and games were indulged in, and at the conclusion cheers were called for Mr. and Mrs. Barron. GIRL GUIDES. ' The Ist Poxton Company of Girl Guides went for a hike to the Poxton Beach last Saturday, under the leadership of Acting-Captain Dent. Recently the following girls have been promoted:—Bessie Crowe, from Patrol Leader to Acting-Lieutenant; Margaret Tyer, from Second to Patrol Leader; Hazel Owen, from Second ito Acting-Patrol Leader; Meta Mason, to Acting Second: Ada Roore, to Second; Jessie Crowe, to Patrol Leader: Ina Easton ,to Second. Presbyterian Church Welcome. On Wednesday evening next the congregation of the Poxton Presbyterian Church will hold a social evening at the Masonic Hall to welcome Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Nicholas, late of Ohahune. Mr. Nicholas was recently appointed to the Poxton charge.
