BUTTER AND CHEESE
FUTURE INTEKESTINH POSSIBILITIES. EXEMPTED PRODUCE. A message from Auckland points out that the immediate future holds possibilities of further interesting developments in the contest between the Dairy Produce Board and the militant and anti-control section of the dairying industry. The most drastic step that is mentioned at the moment is the possibility of action beng taken in the English courts against the board by tho anti-control factories for the recovery of their produce. Another point of interest at the moment has as its basis the fact that a certain South Island company is beyond the scope of tho board’s activities, a.nd is now inviting quotations from English importing houses for its produce f.o.b. at tho nearest port. Before the .Control Act was passed this company had made arrangements with another firm to handle its produce, the contract to hold good while the second firm retained a financial interest in the producing company. It is stated that tho Control Board has recognised the force of this contract. Tho question that has been asked is, what would be tho position of this company should it desire to extend the sphere of its operations by absorbing other companies? Would tho produce of tho absorbed companies come within tho contract and thus be exempt from control?
