YESTERDAY’S SESSION. Yesterday’s session of life Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court was presided over by Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M. Defence Cases. Francis Wm. Heffernan, who took up his residence in Feilding without notifying the Defence authorities, was charged with failure to attend drill. Mr Ongley produced evidence that defendant had attended parades in feilding following hir. couviction three months ago for failing lo render personal service. In the circumstances, his Worship dismissed the information. Allan Oppatt, who pleaded illness as his reason for non-attendance, was convicted and ordered to pay 9s costs. Vehicular Offences. A fine of £1 and 7s costs was imposed on Philip E. Flood for failing to produce his driver’s license. For failing to carry proper lights on their cycles, Wm. Just, John Knowles, Francis O’Connell, Rupert Findlay and Harry Walker were each fined 10s and 2s costs. For exceeding the speed limit over a street intersection, Victor Webley, who did not appear, was mulcted in £2 and Wm. Lundy, who pleaded guilty, was fined 11. Costs wore added in each case. Failure to notify change of ownership of a car cost Percy M. Randal £1 and 7s costs.

Ivan Jewett, who drove at excessive speed within the confines of the Borough, had to pay £2 and 7s to the State. Allan Dean, who rode a cycle to which no rear reflector was attached, was fined 5s and 7s costs. H. W. Hunt, a resident of Taikorea, pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to take a corner correctly, and was defended by Mr McGregor. After evidence had been heard, his Worship adjourned the hearing to permit of his viewing tho scone. Wanted All the Road.

When Wm. R. Mayes, with thro'c; ladies, was motoring between Foxton and Motuiti the other day. he overtook a motor lorry and intimated ihat he wanted to pass. The driver, however, held his course and refused to make way on the correct side of the road, although there was nothing to prevent his doing so. After they had traversed three or four miles in this fashion. Mayes look advantage of a wider section of the road to slip past, whereon tho driver waved his hand after the departing car. He was fined f.l, with costs and witness’s expenses totalling £1 19s. Miscellaneous. For casting offensive matter in George street, Thomas Burns and Desmond Palmer wore each fined £;t and 7s costs. Mr Cooper’s application that defendants' names be suppressed was refused. Five informations were brought by the Pobangina County Council (iMr. Laurcnson) for allowing stock to ( wander—two against H. .1. Fell and Inroa against K. A. Chcync. Both I were lined IDs and costs on each charge and lo pay 9s 9d as half of ( Vho ranger’s expenses.
