TAIKOREA NEWS
FAREWELL TO HEAD TEACHER. The residents of Taikorea gathered on Friday last for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mrs. Brereton, who for the past five and a-half years has been head teacher at the Taikorea School ,and is now taking up a similar position at Fitzherbert East. In presenting Mrs. Brereton with a travelling bag on behalf of the residents, the chairman of the school committee in a few well-chosen words spoke in glowing terms of the high esteem in which Mrs. Brereton has been held in the district. He referred to her able services tendered as a teacher and the motherly interest she has taken in the children’s welfare during her term as a teacher at Taikorea. Mrs. Brereton suitably replied, after which Master Willie Mason, on behalf of the scholars, presented Mrs. Brereton with a handsome clock set in a mother of pearl case. He referred to her popularity amongst the scholars; and the singing of "For she is a jolly good fellow" brought the pleasant function to a close.
