MAORIS UNLUCKY TO LOSE
REFEREE’S TIME-KEEPING FAULTY. [By Electric Cable — [Aust, and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, Oct. 31. The “Daily News” says: “The Maoris were unlucky to lose in the match with the Harlequins. They espetfally suffered from .the referee's faulty time-keeping. He extended the first half by four minutes beyond stoppages and the second half by three minutes. In the first half the extension enabled Hubbard to kick a penalty goal.” The “Daily Mail” saysT “The Maoris were again curiously unequal. They lacked combination and tackled toehigh. Apparently the old wise word to take the man low has not penetrated to Maoriland, resulting in tackling resembling wrestling.” The “Times” says: “The Maoris' mid-field play was mediocre and erratic except that of Kingi. The Harlequins’ centres made even more glaring mistakes than their opponents, but the wingers made the Maoris’ defence uncomfortable as Phillips and Falwasser made the Harlequins’ when they secured the ball in the open.”
