ANGLING NOTES

(By “FISHERMAN.”] Bast week-end proved to be rather better as far as fishing was concerned in the Oroua, quite a number of good baskets being- obtained on the minnow, and on the whole, .this bait was much more successful than the worm. In the Kangitikei also good sport was obtained, but here the worm prevailed owing to discoloured water. The Anglers’ Club competition was well supported by the senior members, but the jitniors were again conspicuous for their lack of interest, which is to be deplored, and if continued will lead to the Committee dropping all competitions for them.

Mr. W. Ingram turned out to be the winner of the .senior event, and is to be congratulated on his success, as this is only his second year’s experience of fishing-. He thoroughly deserved his win as he is casting well with the minnow, and works hard. The inter-Club competition between Feilding and Danncvirkc takes place over this week-end, and as both clubs will be strongly represented some good catches should result, if river conditions are favourable.

Kish are now beginning to take the fly more readily, and once the, weather settles, I expect to hear of good results. The Oroua is still keeping up its reputation for larger fish this season, but 1 will be pleased when the olher rivers once more become clear, as up to the present this stream has had to stand the bulk of the fishing from both Keilding and Palmerston, especially in the lower reaches, and an enormous number of fish must have been taken out of it since the beginning of the season.
