BANDS OF HOPE
DEMONSTRATION CONCERT. CHURCH OF CHRIST WINS BANNER. There was a full house at the Everybody's Theatre last evening when the Palmerston North Bands oi Hope held their annual demonstratior night as the termination of the competitions. The lengthy programme submitted was thoroughly enjoyed by al throughout the evening, and the performers were liberally accorded the appreciation of the audience. During the interval, Mr. H. E. Pacej presented the banner for the highesi number of points gained during the competitions. In doing so, he explained that just over twelve months ago the New Zealand Alliance presented the banner to the Bands o; Hope for competition, and lust yoaj it was won by the Salvation Army; this year the holders took secont place to the Church of Christ. The committee was to bo heartily con gratulated on its work, particularly Miss Hetherington and the Rev. W T. Brown, whose sjjlendid services and conspicuous zeal had made the competitions so successful. It was very gratifying to those working for temperance reform to see the work that has been done in the revival of the Baud of Hope movement, and Mr, Pacey urged those present to carry through life the ideals learnt from the movement. The efforts of the bands showed a perceptible Improvement on earlier attempts, and it was with pleasure that the speaker presented Mr. J. J. Franklin, on behalf of the Church of Christ, with the coveted trophy. Mr. Franklin, in acknowledging the presentation, suitably replied.
