Meeting of Council At the regular meeting of the Palmerston North Borough Council last night, there were present Crs. A. J. Graham (in the chair), M. A. Eliott, J. Hodgens, J. A. McLeavcy, H. J. Canton. W. L. Fitzherbert and M. H. Oram. CorWispondGJHje. From Messrs. Faulkner and Gray, applying for permission to construct now street through Ft. Lot 6, Section 242, Russell street,—-Granted. From Mr, C. Gambitsis. again applying for permission to erect a brick smoko house at the back of his shop in Broadway.—Granted. From Messrs. Hankins. Fitzherbert and Abraham, forwarding for approval, subdivision of part section, 251, Boundary road. —Approved. From the Borough Solicitor, forwarding his opinion concerning management and control of tire Kawau drain. —It was agreed to take steps to have the Land Drainage Act awarded in the direction of conferring upon the Council in this matter the powers possessed by drainage boards. The works and town planning committee reported having considered sis tenders for the erection of a bus barn at the Soandia street depot, alternatively for ultilising old material and for a new building.—lt was decided that no tender be accepted, and that the chairman of the transit commit, too and the borough engineer revise the specifications, with a view to obtaining fresh tenders. It was resolved to purchase 75 tons of “Mexphalto” at £7 Os Cd per ton f.o.r. Wellington and 25 tons of "Trinidad” asphalt, at £lO 9s Sd per ton, f.0.r., Wellington. The engineer was authorised to purchase a new tar boiler to cost £3ls| Messrs. L. 11. Collinson and E. C. Turner had waited upon the committee in connection with their offer to sell a section of land 66 feet in width with frontages to Queen and Grey streets, suitable for the purpose of constructing a roadway between the streets mentioned. The owners also stated that if the section was not utilised for road purposes they would in all probability, lay off a right-of-way 12 feet in width through the land concerned. The road proposition was discussed with the deputation, and it was decided to inform them that the Council regretted being unable to accept their offer to purchase the property. It was recommended that the engineer procure tenders for the supply and delivery of a new IS foot boat to be placed on the dam at Tiritea. The voting in connection with the recommendation was as follows:—• For: Crs. Graham, Hodgens, MeLoavey and Canton. Against: Crs. Eliott, Edwards and Fitzherbert. The agreement between the Council and the Golf Club which was drawn up and signed in February, 3 921, and concerning the removal of sand gravel from the Golf Club’s foreshore, was perused and no action taken.

The proposed subdivision of part sections 767 and 768, Ferguson street, was consented to.—The report was adopted.
