PROBLEM OF TUBERCULOSIS
GOVERNMENT BOARD SUGGESTED. [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, East Night. On the grounds that tuberculosis is a national problem, which should be treated nationally, Dr. G. .1. Blackmore, Medical Director of Tuberculosis Institutions in Canterbury, favours setting up a Government Board for each Island to deal with the problem. Referring to the difficulty occasionally of people coming to Christchurch form other districts for treatment, Dr. Blackmore said that the reduction of the residential qualifications for admission, from 13 to three months, was making the position more difficult, and was against the interests of Canterbury people. Such Boards could allot patients to the most suitable institutions, and there would bo a proper distribution of patients. At present, ■sanatoria worked in water-tight compartments. and each centre tried to keep out patients from others.
