FORESHADOWED GUNNERY IMPRO VEMEN TS. WIRELESS CONTROL OF AEROPLANES. [By Electric Cable—Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, Oct. 11. The “Gazette” stateis that the Atlantic Fleet manoeuvres foreshadow the day when gun turrets wiil operare automatically, eliminating gunners. The heavy fighting arm of battleships will be directed by electric controls from, aloft. Already a turret has been thus operated. A controlled torpedo which would chase a moving target is not impossible. Remarkable experiments have been made with the wireless control of aeroplanes without pilots. A pilot boarded a ’plane at Portsmouth and was told to do nothing except when ordered by wireless or to operate normally if wireless co.ntrol failed. He di dnt touch the control until lie was ordered to dcecend, when he was amazed to find himself in Fifoshire.
