FURTHER investigation. WORIC AT HIGH ALTITUDE. PASADENA (Cal.), July 20, Professor R. A. Millikan, Nobel prize winner for physics and discoverer of the light ray known as the Millikan short-wave ray. announces plans for a trip to the Andes Mountains in Bolivia, where he will extend his researches into the identity of the cosmic rays, which ho discovered and measured. The rays are approximately one hundred times more penetrating than tho most powerful X-ray produced in hospitals and laboratories. They are aide to pierce a wall of load six feet thick. The most penetrating rays now produced in hospitals cannot go through half an inch of lead. Dr. Millikan’s prospective quest of the elusive power will culminate a series of experiments made over a long period of time. Specially constructed instruments are used in the research work. The experiments must be made at the highest altitude possible. An electroscope is lowered below the surface of the mountain lake to measure the penetrating power of the rays.
