PHILATELIC SOCIETY
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Manawatu Philatelic Society was held last evening, when Mr W. W. Jones, presided over a large attendance of members.
Secretary’s Report,
Reporting on the year’s work, the secretary, Mr. E. C. Foot, stated that the” Society began the year with a credit balance of fS 5/11, and he was delighted to state that the financial position showed now a balance on the credit side of the ledger of 122 10/9. It was to be regretted that some of the members were indebted to the amount of £ls .11/51, but as against this he had received about £lO since the closing of the books. The membership at the beginning of the year was 48, and during the twelve months the names of six new members had been added to the roll. He suggested that the stamp superintendent whoever might bo appointed, should be made responsible for the receipt of booklets, the making up or books, the preparing or circuit I’.as and then hand the book over to vh* secretary, for record purposes, who would see to the despatch of same. Similarly when returned, after he was satisfied that everything was intact, he -would hand the book back to the secretary to make up accounts. Altogether some £I2OO worth of stamps had passed through the Society’s hands, and sales of approximately £2OO had been effected. It had been discovered that the Society was indeed a medium of exchange as tno amount of cash handled was very small in comparison with the sales, the sellers also proving good buyers. In conclusion ho expressed thanks to all the members of the Society, and particularly to those officers who had been closely associated with him in the administration of the a fairs of the Society, It had been a pleasure to work with them and he must specially record the services of the superintendent, Mr W.
