ASSAULT AND ROBBERY
THREE MAORIS ARRESTED. STORY OF NIGHT ATTACK. [Per Press Association.] GISBORNE, March 29. About 11 o’clock on Saturday night Albert Edward Orange, a saddler, of Ruatoria, was called from his bed by a Maori, who said he had a saddle to be repaired. He gave Orange , the saddle and then said he had some more saddles around the corner. He went away and came back with two masked Maoris, one of . whom was armed with a double-barrelled gun. The three Natives rushed -at .Orange and violently assaulted him. When Orange recovered-ho. found he had been robbed, and reported the occurrence to the police. Yesterday afternoon Inspector Eccles and two constables went to the Whenuakura Pa, and there arrested three Natives on charges of assaulting and robbing Orange. The shot gun and a saddle are now in the hands oi ■the police. Orange was badly knockled about.
