HOBBS ON ENGLAND’S strength;

Hobbs, in a lengthy criticism in the “Daily Dispatch,” dealing with members of the Australian team and prospects of the tour, says; "England is strong where Australia is weak- — inthe quality of her medium-paced bowlers, which, after all, is gene-ally the backbone of a team's bowling. Wo have as good cricketers, man for man, in England, as they have in Australia, and only the determination to win is required to prove it.” He docs not complain that Australian players, according to newspaper articles, are permeated with sufficient confidence to retain “The Ashes,” but regrets that English writers are manifesting a spirit of carping criticism. The visitors are certainly a formidable side, he says, but they axe not the super-cricketers some people want to make them out. His considered opinion is that English cricket at the present time is equal to Australian.
