THE ELTHAM FIRE

EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. [Per Press Association.! ELTHAM, Last Night. The adjourned inquest into the Dominion boardinghouse fire, in which four people were burned to death, was resumed to-day. Evidence was given by Mrs Taylor, proprietress, and William James Calder, manager, but nothing startling was elicited. Mrs Taylor was almost in a state of collapse, her evidence being punctuated with sobs and signs of deep emotion. A lady friend attended and soothed the hysterical woman throughout her painful experience. Calder gave his evidence in a cool and collected manner, showing that he had a clear recollection of the tragic events. It was announced that the Fire Board would demand a Magisterial inquiry into the fire. Several Witnesses were heard, the proceedings lasting ail day.
