MAIN TRUNK EXPRESS DELAYED

BREAKDOWN AT WADIARINO. RESULTS IN LOCAL CONGESTION. The Palmerston North Railway station presented a scene of unusual bustle and activity at 1 p.m. yesterday, when the largest number of expresses which has congregated there at one time to date were drawn up at the platforms.

The circumstance aiose out of a breakdown in the engine of the Auck-iand-Wellington mall at Waimarino, which delayed the train for three and a-half hours. Due to arrive at Palmerston North at 9.16 a.m., the express did not reach the station until 1 p.m., this resulting in the up Napier express having to be held up from 12.29 p.m. to 1.5 p.m. The up New Plymouth express and the up Napier mail arriving to schedule completed the total.
