GREY GRANDSTAND BURNED. [Per Press Association.] GREYMOUTH. Last Night. A destructive fire started at 1.20 p.m. in the main grandstand of the Greymouth Trotting Club, Victoria Park. ' It wa s built in 1923, covering an area of 150 feet by 36 feet, a ferroconcrete structure. It was speedily converted into a vast furnace and in forty minutes the whole internal wooden structure was demolished. Thick iron staunchions and girders were twisted like wire, and only the walls are remaining. The damage is estimated at £13,000, and the insurances total £BOOO. | The fire is believed to have started in a disused part, beneath the seats, and a southerly wind drove the flames through the structure, rendering salvage work impossible.
