FURTHER SACRIFICES ASKED OF MEN. [By Electric Cable—Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable ‘Association.] LONDON, January 5. The “Morning Post’s” Labour correspondent gives an authoritative forecast of the proposals that the coalov nors will present to the Coal Commission.
They include a return to the eighthours' day. district regulation of wages and conditions of employment; also a reduction of railway rates. The owners state that even now the cost of production greatly exceeds the selling price, and that further reductions will be necessary if the lost export trade is to be regained.
