Mr. Ij. J. Carmine, of th e Bank of New Zealand, Inglewood, has received notice of his promotion to Fcilding. Viscount Jellicoc has been appoint- ■, Cor.iivy Commissioner of Boy Scouts in the County of .London, states a cable. Mr. Bud yard Kiplinf is ill with bronchial pneumonia at his home at Bin-wash, states a cable. A later message states that the patient's condition is worse. A London cable records the death of Sir John Young Walker McAlister, founder of the University of London Press and secretary and editor for the Royal Society of Medicine. His Honour, Mr Justice Ostler, with his associate Mr Gillingham, will arrive in Palmerston North on Wednesday. and will resume the Palmerston North Supreme Court session on December 10. Mr. Charles A. Morris, editor of the "New Zealand Times,” has been appointed managing director of the "Now Zealand Times” Company. Mr. Harris tvas formerly associate editor of the Christchurch “Sun,” and -was appointed editor of the “Times.” eight months ago.—Press Association. There was a very pleasing function at the Palmerston North stationmaster’s office yesterday afternoon. The occasion was a farewell to Messrs J. R. Atkin and A. McKinley who have been transferred to Picton and Levin respectively. Mr J. J. O’Shea, stationmaster, expressed good fellowship and general regret at the loss of these officers who had been for some years on the Palmerston North staff. Several members of the Railway Officers Institute, also spoke,, Messrs Atkin and McKinley suitably replying.
