WANGANUI PRESBYTERY

The bi-monthly meeting of the Presbytery of Wanganui met in Marton yesterday. In the absence of theRev. J. H. Bredin, Moderator, the Rev. ,G. T. Brown. M.A., took the chair. Elder’s Commissions. Commissions from the following congregations were received: St.; James’ Wanganui, Mr. J. G. Cairdj; St. Andrew’s Wanganui, Mr- P- H. Clomance; Hunterville, Mr. John Lambert;, Fordoll, Mr. A. Sutherland; kaet'ihl, Mr. J. J. Heard; St. Andrew's Palmerston North. Messrs. D. W. Low and Stanley Nairn. Rev. C. McDonald, a minister emeritus of South Canterbury, was introduced to-the Presbytery by Rev. John Paterson. M.A. and was welcomed by the Moderator. New Moderator. On the motion of the Clerk, Rev. D. Mclvor, Rev. H. Boggs, of St. Andrew’s, Wanganui, was appointed Moderator for the ensuing six months Cofresyoudoaco. A .letter was received from the Home .Mission Superintendent stating that financial grants had been passed to stations a s follows:'. Ohakuno £OO, Palmerston North outfields, £4O, Rewa £OO, Raetihl- f SO, Apiti £2O. Taihape Induction.

Rev. John Paterson moved that the date of induction of Rev.’ E. Bundy (late of Tanoatua) bo Tliursday, December 10. Rovi John Paterson to preside and induct. Roy; J. C. Mills to preach and Rev. H. - Beggs to address the minister and -congregation. This was agreed to. Rev. John Paterson reported that the Appeal of Mr. Thomson’ to the General Assembly was sent by the Bills and Business Committee to the Judicial Committee who unanimously decided that the matter was irrelevant. It was not therefore brought before the Assembly itself. He also reported that the Assembly had created the Presbytery, the Temperance Committee and also the Bible In Schools’ Committee with Rev. John Paterson convenor in each case. He moved that the Wanganui ministers bo the executive of each of these committees.

Impressions of their visits to the General Assembly were given by Kovs. Thos. Miller, M.A., and John Paterson, H.A. They were unanimously thanked for their interesting and comprehensive reports. Church 1 tally Month.

The Presbytery recommended tc congregations that the Church Hally Month be observed by the various congregations this year in the month of April. Rev. G. T. Brown was appointed to circularise the various congregations to try and create interest in this matter. Personal. Rev. Jas. McCaw, having been granted a Presbytery certificate, was warmly commended to the brethren of the Wellington Presbytery. A minute relative to the work of Rev. James Wilson, late of Turakina framed in the highest terms of commendation, was presented by Rev. T. Miller, M.A., and was engrossed in the minutes of the Presbytery. On the motion of Mr. Heard of Ractihi ,Mr. Carl J.arsen, was granted a Presbytery certificate, entitling him to be' recognised us a student for the ministry and at the suggestion of Rev. John Paterson. Mr. James Miller of Wanganui, was also recognised. Most excellent reports concerning these young men wore heard from various speakers. The Licensing of Mr. Alan Watson, probationer, is to be arranged by the Commission, who have the matter In hand, at some suitable date in. the Church at Feilding. Youth Committee. It was moved that the Wanganui ministers and elders, along with three representatives from the Sunday School Union, two representatives from the Young Men’s Bible Class district committee and two representatives of the young women’s district committee be the welfare of youth committee of the Presbytery. The Presbytery ratified the request of the Young . Peoples’ District Committee to invite the next summer conference to be held in Wanganui. Ministers were also asked to urge upon their Sunday School teachers the importance of attending the Sunday School teachers’ conference to bo held in Wanganui at Easter time.

Visitation of St. Andrew’s, Wanganui. Tho report showed the work was in a live condition especially among the joung. A good deal of work had been undertaken on the property in building and painting, both at the Manse and the Church. The finances showed an upward tendency including a number of special donations. A highly satisfactory and complimentary finding was come to. The eiders were, however, urged to take a more active part in co-opcration with the minister in the definite spiritual work of the congregation. The work wat growing greatly and the population was rapidly spreading along the river bank and the time was fast approaching when assistance would need to he given to Mr. Beggy or another agent appointed ove ra part of the work. Permission was granted to Rev ; G. T. Brown, to use the Presbytery marquee at the Boy Scout camp in January.
