Tire widespread interest in Captain Bentley’s tank claim is revealed By a statement of the, Judge to the effect that he had received large numbers of letters, photographs, and bulky packages, also specifications for the invention of an armoured car dated 1883. Counsel declared that he had also received a large number of letters while inventors were communicating with him day and night General Eethune, In evidence, said that Captain Bentley had called at the War Office in 1914, and spoke of the idea for an armoured traction car. Witness was not interested, because he had his own work to do. The Solicitor-General, In a statement, said that he did not wish tc infer that Lord Kitchener, because he was sceptical over tanks, was neglectful of the country's interests. Lord Kitchener had many pressing duties, and the failure to develop the tank was no reflection on his character and service.
