supekintenden r m‘ic/venei APPOINTED. OFFICER WITH DISTINGUISHED RECORD. Superintendent W. D. MTlvcney, of Wellington, has been appointed Commissioner of Police In succession to Hr. A. H. Wright, who will retire from office as from February 1 next. The Minister of Justice (Sir James Parr) in making the announcement, said that Superintendent MTlvcney was an officer of long experience and had a distinguished record. Ho llad no doubt that Mr. MTlveney would prove a fit successor to Mr. Wright. Sir James said that he regretted the retirement of Mr. Wright, who had been associated with him as chief adviser in police matters during the past two or three years. Mr. Wright had had a long career of most useful service. His principal characteristic was his sound judgment and his fairness and openness of mind. In the retirement of Mr. Wright, the country would lose a good servant.
