The Tauranga Borough Council has appointed Mr Ciaudri W. Boak, of Hamilton, as electrical and general engineer at a salary of £650, vice Mr L. Mandcno, resigned. There were 37 applicants. Visitors at the Luncheon Club yesterday included Messrs. T. J. Harold (Melbourne.). H. Straw bridge (Wellington), W. Campbell (Dunedin). F. W. Christian, D. R. S. Munro and Drs. Waddell and R. V. Hooper, o£ Palmerston North.

A. E. Cooke, the All Black fiveeighth. is about to remove to Wellington, for family reasons. Should he remain there, which is not yet certain, Wellington Province will next season probably have a great combination in Porter, Nicholis, Cooke, and Svcnson.

Mr. P. J. Perry, a Tasmanian visitor to New Zealand, Is authorised by the Tasmanian Government to make inquiries concerning New Zealand’s methods of carrying on various public services, and will attend the conference of Power Boards to be held at Palmerston North this ween.

Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., of New Plymouth, is a visitor to Palmerston North, at present .having arrived yesterday, Mr Mowlem was on holiday in Australia with Mrs Mowlem when he received word ot l the serious illness of his father (the late Mr Fred Mowlem), and immediately caught the boat for home, but while on board, a wireless informed him that his father had passed away. At last night’s meeting of the Hokowhitu School Committee the headmaster (Mr G. K. Hamilton) reported that three members of the staff, the Misses Wingate and Neil and Mr Galloway, would be going to the training college next year. While these young teachers had been at Hokowhitu they had done far more than the regulations required of them and had carried out their duties in an enthusiastic manner earning both the gratitude and esteem of the other members of the staff.

The Rev. Robertson Orr, pastor of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church for many years, has received a call to Westminster Church, Vancouver. Last night, states a Wellington message, a special meeting of Bt. Andrew’s parishioners was held to consider and discuss the position. The Rev. Orr’s work on behalf of the Church was eulogised by many speakers who stated that the church had made great progress under his pastorate. Mr Orr was given a free hand in tlic matter by his congregation and he decided to accept the call. It is uncertain when Mr Orr will leave New Zealand, but he expressed a desire to leave the Dominion not later than February 18, 192 G.

The Rev. George Hunter McNeur, Moderator-Designate of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, was born in the Clutha District, Otago. He received his training for mission work in Adelaide, and Glasgow. Ordained in 1901 for mission work in China, Mr McNeur became the pioneer missionary of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand in its field in the Canton villages. He is an accomplished Chinese linguist and has written text-books for use in training Chinese students. Ho has, of late, been occupied in the revision of a new translation of the Scriptures into Chinese. Mr McNeur, is at the present time, on the staff of the Union Theological College, Canton, and is also a warden of the residential portion of the college.
