SCOTTISH CONCERT

ST. ANDREW’S DAY OBSERVANCE. Yesterday, peculiar to the memory of Saint Andrew, was fittingly observed by the Scottish community of Palmerston North, and that the spirit that prompts the donning of the kilt and the skirl of the pipes is not parochial ia evidenced by the fact that Scots of other towns took part in the celebrations. A concert was held in the evening, preceded by a parade through the streets of the Hunterville pipe band, when a large number of pipers drew attention to the Opera House, where a varied and tasteful programme was presented. The fare was provided by well-known local artists and visitors from a wide radius. Songs were contributed as follow: —Songs: “Mary Morrison”, Mrs T. Hutchison; humorous, Mr D. Stark (Wellington); "My Ain Folk”, Mrs Benson; “The Standard on the Braes o’ Mar,” Mr A. R. McKegg. “O’ a’ the Airts”, Mr D. Reid; duet “Hunting Tower,” Mr and Mrs Gibson (Marton); dances. Misses C. and M. McLeod and J, Benge and Messrs McLeod (Tainui); flute selection “Blue Bells”, Mr T. Wylie; recitation, Mr Peter Eadie (Auckland) and selections by the Hunterville Pipe Band. Insistent demands for encores met with a generous response by the performers.
