WEST END SCHOOL

COMMITTEE MEI3TIJS G. The monthly meeting of the West End School was held last evening, when Mr. C. H. Whitehead occupied the chair. Other members present were:—Messrs. D. E. Presnell, H. B. Mouldoy, A. E. Biackbourn, A. Penketh and G. Dyne (hon. sec.). Headmaster’s Report. The headmaster (Mr. A. W. Thompson) reported that the present roll number was 421. The daily attendance was particularly good, each day there being’ over 400 pupils present. Armistice Day was suitably celebrated on November 11, when Major Lindsay Gardner gave an interesting address to the assembled pupils. Twelv o children were selected by Dr. Elizabeth Gunn for the camp at Tarakina and from reports received they appeared to be deriving considerable benefit from the health course. The proficiency examinations w-ere held on November 20, but the results are as yet not to hand. The usual annual examinations for the other classes were being under taken at the present time. Thanks were duo to Major S. G. Sandle for his generous gift of a valuable gramophone record and to Mr. A. Penketh for a donation of sweets to the primers. On behalf of the staff, Mr. Thompson wished to thank the committee for the keen interest it had taken in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the children and wished the members the compliments of the season.—The report was adopted. General. The Education Board wrote thanking the committee for its decision to pay half (£120) the cost of relaying the quadrangle floor in wood. Accounts amounting to £l4 3/11 were passed for payment.
