TENNIS, A match between Levin and Foxton Clubs was played on the Foxton club’s courts on Saturday afternoon, Foxton being the' victors by 12 sets to 0, and 102 games to 87. A successful shop day was held on Saturday In aid of the Bowling Club funds. Mesdames Downes, Huntley and Miss Nye were in charge of the shop. The sum of £l3/17/8 was netted. ' Bth Battery in Camp. The Bth Field Battery, N.Z.A., arrived iu Foxton on Saturday under the oomamnd of Captain Wood. Other officers arc Lieutenants Buchanan and Jackson, while the adjutant is Captain Sarr, M.C., D.S.O. The Rev. F. J. Parker is chaplain. In the camp sports every man took part, there being sub-section events for each of which a standard was set. Every man gaining the standard scored one point, and there were a variety of events for the competitors. Sub-Section A under Sex-geant D. Stewart proved the winners with 25 points. B sub-section being runnersup with 224. C and D sub-sections followed with 20 and SJ points respectively. The latter were last year’s champions. The tug-of-war and wrestling oi) horseback were very good competitions, and caused great excitement. The permanent artillery horses took matters very calmly, but the locally supplied animals proved the winners at the finish. Horticultural Society.

A meeting of the Horticultural Society was held yesterday, Mr. D. Christie, president, occupying the chair, also present were:—Messrs. W. Nye, James Rose, Murphy, S. M. Poole, Tyer and the Rev. Peryman, Mes'dames K. Moore, E. Healey, P. Easton, J. N. Barr and R. McMurray. Apologies were received from Miss Ross and Mesdames, F. Proctor and Murphy. • The secretary read a financial statement for the summer show. It stated that there were 583 entries, and receipts were £3B 16/7, which with expenditure £34 8/6, left a credit balance of £4 8/1. -The president remarked that the Society had every reason to he satisfied with the result of tho show. A communication was received from the Rev. Walton, in which he stated that he wished to abide by his decislon in regard [to h's . resignation from tho committee. Special prizes have been presented for the best exhibit of cut blooms with ho limit to th e number, of exhibits.
