MEETING OP COUNCIL. The Mayor, Mr. F. J. Nathan, presided at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening. There were also present:—Crs. A. J. Graham, H. J. Canton, .1. Hodgens, D. W. Low, W. L. Fitzhcrbert, R. Edwards, M. A. Eliott and M. H. Oram. Correspondence. From W. R. Birnie, representative of Wanganui Education Board, with reference to the Council’s enquiry whether the Board intends to purchase part section 310, Main street west, and intimating that the matter was discussed at the last meeting of the Education Board. The Department, h e stated, had been written to With a definite recommendation. The Council’s letter had been forwarded to the chairman of the Board with a request that he press the Department for an immediate reply. From the Employers’ Association, intimating that there is no need for further funds towards expenses incurred in connection with the recent shipping strike. From Messrs. Wilton and Vautier, staling that they understand the Council had no authority to accept the sum of £192 for the estimated cost of tarring the footpaths of Matipo and Konini streets, and asking that the said sum he i-efunded.—Referred to the Borough Solicitor. From the. ratepayers of Clifton street, drawing attention to the present condition of the footpaths in Clifton street.- —Engineer to report. Reports. The works and town planning committee recommended; —That th e question of leasing the Museum building, Cuba street, bo postponed for twelve months; that, the ratepayers of Keeling street he informed that th e Council is empowered to- perform the construction of footpaths without consulting those concerned, and to impose the usual charge; that the following sub-divisions were approved of In terms of section 335 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1S20: Lots 1 to 8 of section 225, corner of Rangitlkei street and Featheraton street, owner High School Board: lots 1 to G of section 988, corner of Cook and Ferguson streets, owner W. A. Kyle. Land transfer plan of sub-division of part section 2SO showing new street thereon, owner A. G. Havill. Part lot 9, section 121, comer of Margaret and Main streets, owner T. R. Attwood; that the Church of Christ be granted permission to erect a small schoolroom in wood on part lot 3, section 304 Campbell street, which is within the brick area. On the recommendation of the reserves committee, It was resolved to inform a deputation .from the Manawatu Bowling and Croquet Club that the extra rental of £7 10/- charged from August 1, 1924, to November 1, 1925, will be remitted, but no allowance on the cost of th e repairs to the surface of the courts can be made, and that the account covering same and amounting to £25 18/4, must he paid before March 31, 1926; that the caretaker of the Sportsground be instructed to wafer and roll the' wickets before being used, and that the Cricket Association be advised accordingly; that the Northern Bowling Club he allowed to park cars in the vacant area on the north western side of H ie bowing green, provided the Club agrees to pay half cost of installation of a culvert- at the entrance leading hitherto.
