LETTER THAT CONTAINED A THREAT. “This letter contains a threat and consequently should only bo received.’* —Thus Cr. Eliott when a letter from the Hokowhitu Ratepayers’ Associa. tion was before th e Council last evening asking that certain works should be done in the Hokowhitu area. The portion, of the letter objected to read as follows:—“Failing this request being given effect to, th e . pro-perty-owners concerned will bo reluctantly compelled to take legal action. and seek an injunction .. .." Continuing, Mr. Eliott stated that on a previous occasion a similar attitude was adopted by a correspondent when the matter of electric light in Hokowhitu was under consideration. Cr. Graham seconded the motion.

The Mayor, however, considered it would be wiser if the matters referred to in the letter were sent on to the committee concerned for report. He moved an amendment in that direction. Cr. Edwards; I fail to see where ihcrc is anything terribly shocking in the letter, I am afraid Cr. Eliott'a health is upset to-night. The amendment was carried.
