NO INCOME RETURNS
MAN FINED TEN POUND®. HAMILTON, November 36. A flue of £lo'wag imposed-on Johß Falloona for failing to furnish hl s Income tax returns. Ho pleaded guilty. The Crown solicitor, Mr. H. T. Gillies, stated that defendant was the owner of a, large boardinghouse at Rotorua and of an extensive tract of sheep country. His income was a comfortable one, but for the last few years the department had been obliged to make out default assessments against him. Mr. W. Gray, who appeared for defendant, said his client had fallen Into th o method of accepting the default assessments and abiding by them. Ho now had a Qualified accountant on tils hooks and if it were ascertained that he had innocently fallen snort of hln full dues he would doubtless have to make good the difference. It was possible that defendant had actually paid more than he needed to have paid. The magistrate said defendant had been negligent on many occasions. It was probable that not only were the offlbers of the department put to a great dal of trouble as a result or ills default, but that the State had lost a certain amount of revenue.
