“BOOTLEGGER” TRAPPED
MARKED NOTE AND SALE OP WHISKY. [Per Press Association.] ASHBURTON, Last Night. Archibald John Templeman was sentenced to three, months’ hard labour for selling liq\ior. The evidence showed that a man offered to help tho police make a sale from Templeman, who was given a marked pound note. He .got Templeman out of the house, when the police found a bottle of whisky and the note on him. The defence was that the pound was for towing a disabled car and the whisky was to have a spot after tho job had been completed. The Magistrate, Mr. Mosley, said he had met the accused before, when he received a warning. He did not believe accused or his wife’s evidence. Counsel intimated that an appeal would probably be made.
