PURDY v. MURRAY FIGHT SUGGESTED.

The Manawatu Boxing Association met last evening, when th e president (Mr. H. E. Bennett) occupied fhe chair. Other members present were: • —Messrs. R, Maync, T. Richards, J. Phelan, J. Purves and R. L. C. Merton (hon. sec.). The secretary of the Manawatu Boxing Club wrote aching for permission to transfer the club’s in f crests to Mr. J. Humphries.—Agreed to cn certain conditions. An endeavour is to be made to get a fight between Charlie Purdy and Les Murray for the light-weight championship and n. purse of £2OO, the flutter to be staged on Boxing night, if this match can be arranged it was also decided that a ten-rounds professional fight be staged between Derry .Clinton and Mark Carroll. United Control Favoured. The New Zealand Boxing Council wrote pointing out that there was a proposal being made in Christchurch to hav e an Amateur Boxing Council formed to deal with amateur fights only and leaving the professional arrangements with the present councilThe letter stated that the present govfining body did not favour this action and considered that it was time the local associations expressed theit opinions. The matter had been placed before the Minister of Internal Affairs and the letter suggested that the decision of the Manawatu Association bo forwarded to the Minister as soon as possib’e. It was decided that the following wire bo sent to the Minister: "That the granting of approval to the proposed now Amateur Boxing Association would b e disastrous to boxing generally and amateur boxing in particular and the Manawatu Association is satisfied the present boxing control is in the best interest of amateur I boxing.”
