The report of the engineer submitted at the meeting of the Pohan. guia County Council on Saturday was as follows: —

Very good progress had been made with itic construction of a concrete bridge over Spelman’a Greek. The arch deck slab, which had a span of 46 feet, had been completed, and the whole of the work should bo finished I during the present month. He purposed then starting to build tho con. crete bridge on th e Main Highway at Apltl. Ho expected also to make a start on two other concrete bridges at an early date, to replace the old timber structure over Dundas gully and the bridge in the Totara Reserve. Plans and particulars, for the work had been submitted to the Public Works Department for approval. About 1300 totara posts had been split, a.nd could now be allocated to applicants. In the Awahou Riding, repair metal had been carted and potholes filled in on Pohanglna valley road on No. 2 and No. 4 lines. The light grader had also been !in use scraping In metal on the Valley road, and a number of small slips on the roads shifted. A concrete culvert had been put in on the Ridge road, the overhanging scrub had been cut back, and the watertables cleared out. Si ml. lar work had been carried out on London's road. Both these were roads in good order. Th e Main Highway which, for most of its length in this riding had a very steep slope on the outside and a high bank on the other, had, as a result of the past wet season, been damaged, therefore ,a good deal of extra labour had been employed in cutting back the high bank to widen out the road, as in several places it haa slipped down the gully, or Into the river. At the approach to Apiti Bridge the road had been widened ,out and a fence erected on the river side. In the Mangaonp riding, the old bridge on Pollock’s road had been re-deeked with second.hand totara timber. The rona grader had been at, work trimming up all ef the roads in the riding and had finished the work, with the exception of a section of Finnis road. Pollock’s and the Boundary roads. This work would have been finished had it not been necessary to engage the teams cartin.r shingle and sand for concrete bridge construction work. In the Mangaplkiplko riding, patch metal had been cartca and spread on the Main, Nix and Norse, wood roads wherr. a bad washout had been reoalred. The roads throughout Pohanpina jading were in good order, with the excent'on 1 of a part of tho Rid~e road from To Awa Road junction to Mr. Oaine’s residence, which woidr! be metalled during the summer. The Tamakl roadman had been employed with the use of a team of horses and dray carting metal and repairing the main road. Delaware flat and the Opawa road. In tbe TTmutoi riding, thero had been no special work done during the past month The surfacemen had been engaged elean'ng out watertables and shifting slips.—Ado—to^
