A drastic expedient in the shape of a temporary standstill order for a period of three weeks over the Mid. lands and South of England has beer Imposed by the Minister of Agrlcul ture in the determination to stamp out the spread of foot and mouth dis ease, which is threatening to reinvade the country from Continental sources. Sixteen counties have been affected during the past seven weeks. In certain specified cases the move, ments of cattle are permissible within the affected area, but under no conditions to a free area.
